It's final...

well, finalizing...
Here are the latest (and last) details on tomorrow's Inquizition rounds.
  1. Who the frak is Alice? Lewis Carroll's Alice o/c, in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, the author, the story, the characters...in literature, music & film... waaaayyy too many questions already. That one's defo gonna be fun.
  2. Some things in Black & White make sense.. from zebras to zebra crossings, to barcodes and black & white movies, beer, msuic.. all shapes & sizes... and since the mighty black & white Magpies are playing on the night - extra points and/or spot prizes for correctly predicted goals against Leicester .. let's hope there are some :)
  3. Picture round - the usual mix of BS, genetix, macros & maybe Spot The Ball...
  4. Alcoholic anagrams... drunken mix of letters that have to be rearranged to identify bevvies
  5. Music round - cunningly blended mix of TV and movie themes (or snippets thereof)... because we can :P
See yis bright and early (or at least around 8pm)...

Get back, get back, get back to where you once...

Just because I keep getting asked.
A return to the Kilkenny is currently not in the cards, yellow, red, or otherwise. If and when the Quiky continues you will be the first ones to know provided that you watch this space.
In the meantime there's the Irish Harp Inquizition and - because I keep getting told - if you don't like it make other plans for Monday night. No one is forced to attend and I'm seriously getting bored by repeated whingeing. You know who you are.
The choice is simple - take it or leave it. There's always the Celtic Cottage.

As for the Inquizition - I'm working on changing it to another day but it's easier to train a monkey.
I am looking forward to no. 4 when we answer the question "WTF is Alice?!". And Stew's rendition of "The Carpenter and the Walrus"..

Beware the Jabberwock

Apologies Inquizition fans for the tardiness. It's the end of the month, and private and work matters are demanding more of my time and energy than usual.

Here are this week's points:
Cannonballs 55
Canucks 46+
Super Nova 46
1/4 Leninskij 34,5

That out of the way, I'd like to thank all teams for a fun night, it's getting better by the week. An extra massive thank you and round of applause once more goes to Stewart, for his wonderful rendition of Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky". That was totally cool and I'm already looking forward to next Monday, and maybe the recitation of "The Walrus and the Carpenter". And for those of you who turned up late on Monday and missed it (or just want to listen to it again) - here's the file kindly sponsored by the artist :)

And that brings us to the rounds for Inquizition #4.
The Yogi round is - surprise, surprise - Alice. And before you ask "WTF is Alice?!" - we're talking Lewis Carroll's Alice. In Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass. In books, films, music...
The second question round is going to be Black & White (for obvious reasons). The UNBEATEN YET this season Newcastle United are playing on the night and I might hand out extra points for those of you who correctly predict half-time and full-time results...
The music round is TV or movie themes, not sure yet. Check back here before Monday.
Picture round might be themed this time, not sure yet. However, handouts are not necessary - a new beamer has already been installed!!!! We should be getting bright pictures that stay up on the screen for as long as we need them.
The last question round - no idea yet. Maybe we'll do anagrams (I could hand you a sheet and go and watch football :)

And last but not least - I might have said it's not necessary to reserve tables (yet) but that was just in general. If you're after a specific table you'd better let me know or turn up real early.
SuperNova - "euer" Tisch ist für den 7. September reserviert :)

So - that's that for now, see you Monday for fun, football & fiese Fragen. Till then, have a good one.

Three is a magic number

..and Inquizition #3 might mot be magic but it should defo be a good laugh. The Music round is gonna be intros, maybe spliced together with added pics but no promise here.
Themed round (Yogi) is gonna by Monty Python. Anything from the Flying Circus (Spanish Inquisition anyone?) to the films and solo projects of the members. YAY!!! I'm already pretty excited about that one.
Picture round - because Missing Tim & Struppi begged so nicely - is gonna be lots of BS, genetix and new logo challenges.
That leaves us with 2 question rounds yet to pick and I'll give it some thought as soon as the Magpies have beaten Wednesday on Wednesday.

Über den Wolken

Quick round-up of last night's impro night.
Left the scoresheet in the big blue bag but seem to remember the points being as follows.

Canucks 50
Missing Tim+Anton+Anton 46
1/4 Leninskij 25

Do correct me if memory fails me.
Stu is entitled to picking the topic for the themed round and I will try to find more music from Down Under.

Anyone for seconds?

It's Sunday 8pm and as usual I'm getting a tad frantic because I haven't actually thought it through. Or worked it out.
Music round is gonna change from movie themes (we'll do that later this month) to more or less famous duets. And/or duos.
Picture round will be mixed bag of nuts just because I can't quite get used to the thought of a themed picture round (and your lot are not exactly helping :)
Topical round (because the Buntspechte didn't send me their Yogi theme) is gonna be Airplanes! from film to technology to history and music.
Connect 9 is still very much a possibility for the second question round and the third is still wide open. Let's hope inspiration hits me before sleep. Otherwise we do True or False.
3 confirmed guests for tomorrow so there should be plenty of alcohol left for all after all.

Von Vögeln und clocks (& clogs)

What can I say? After a (more or less) quizless summer, a relaxed week and a hectic Sunday and Monday the "grand re-opening" of quiz season was ... waaaayy better than I had expected. Actually, I had no idea what it would turn out to be like and as a Newcastle fan I have habitually low expectations so the first (new) InQuizition was a pleasant surprise on all counts. Especially the part when the gremlins fecked off and the big screen worked :)
It was good to see so many "old hands" and I have the feeling that we'll see the 3 rookie teams again.
As usual, last minute preparations and life's other plans made for a bit of a Durcheinander, and improvisation was called for. Not that it was anything new or surprising. I'm working on it tho and promise that the next one will be smoother sailing. And nay worries, the unused pictures are safe and will most likely be used in next week's picture round (nice new genetix :).
So - without much more ado the points for Inquizition #1.

Buntspechte took the Yogi Prize and hence the right to choose the topic for next week's themed round. Should they not send in their preference by Saturday I can definitely think of something else :)
For all those who had to miss the quiz - here is the picture round. 9 macro shots and 8 celebrity yearbook / kiddie pictures.

And here's one question from the "Clocks" round. Because the picture needs spreading :) This is a slightly more unorthodox version of a famous painting, showing 3 melting clocks. Name the artist and the proper title of the (original :) painting.

The other questions might appear here soon, time permitting.
Just one more thing. Question in the "Birds" round was: what sort of parrot does the customer take back to the pet shop in Monty Python's famous "Dead Parrot/Pet Shop" sketch? The answer of course is "Norwegian Blue". At least in English. I have never seen a German dubbed version (and I wouldn't want to) but according to Die Buntspechte there is one. And in German the bird is a Norwegische Blaustirnamazone or something to that extent. And they got a point for it. Because it was the first quiz and I didn't want to split hairs. BUT. The answer was wrong (well, they got the Norwegian part right :) It was a "norwegischer Blauling"
For all those who need to be reminded that Monty Python (and most English humour in general) soooo loses in translation - here is the German version. And I wish I hadn't listened before posting it.

That's it for now, more leftovers here soon. As well as a preview for Inquizition #2.
Till then - have a good one, and may the better teams win tonight.

Countdown: Q -5.5

There's a chance that the Heinzelmännchen fix the damage done by the evil gremlins and we can do a proper picture round on the big screen. Fingers crossed.
And since I'm not getting any suggestions for the last question round, and it's the first quiz, we'll do "Famous Firsts".
Sorted.
See ya.

Countdown: Q -7

Houston, we have a quiz.
It's only one more week to go until kick-off and time to finalise plans. Here is what I've decided so far for the Irish Harp InQUIZition #1 .

Music round is going to be Cover Versions. I have far too many to not use them :)
Picture round (gremlins permitting) is going to be the well-known mix of genetix, macros & other BS. For newcomers' sake. Should technical hiccups prevent us from using the big screen I'll think of something else.
One question round is going to be Connect 9.
The second question round is themed, 5 sealed envelopes with 9 questions each, you pick. Lucky dip, like.
The third question round is still open.
We will have a Yogi Prize for last, and the usual shots & flying nuts. And prizes for 1st and 2nd.
Since I don't know how many other people to expect apart from Maarten & Rita I won't bother much with preparing ciggie break entertainment. Might do so with time but for now it's low maintenance. Last infos up here some time between now and Sunday. Keep practising :)

And as usual ze Dshörmen version.
