May Day Mysteries

2.25 days to go and still no idea really apart from "George" leftovers. The initially planned "Connect 9" round proves more difficult than expected.. it works a treat in English, the German version seems to get lost in translation ever so often.
Music/Audio round could be a movie mix - soundtrack titles and quotes... if I find enough German equivalents.
"May Day" round or "Order, please" are potential subs. Or simply a colour-coded mix (red in all its glorious shades, just because it's May Day...) .. or something brought to you by the letter.... T.
Suggestions/requests are still welcome, but only till Wednesday afternoon..

YAY! My first very own "vertical genetic experiment". Not too shabby, easy enough to guess, and only a teeny-weeny bit ... weird. This is soooo much fun.. I might actually not use it on Thursday but make new ones... As for the horizontal one - yum!

Quiky #285 - points & places

And to express my thanks again, here are the points...
Can't promise but will try to put up some last night's questions and pictures over the weekend. In English AND German. Might take a wee while.

Sie sind der Ansicht das war SPITZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all - German.

And for those who see German as their third or fourth language (or just as a necessary evil) - this is saying thanks to all those extremely well-behaved quizzers who made last night's Quiky such an enjoyable and memorable experience. I'm still slightly shocked (in a very positive way) for I can't recall the last time we had so much fun without so little (actually none at all) hassle. Nights like these remind me why I'm doing this gig every week. Sure was great craic - here's hoping for a repeat performance.

By George, she's got it!

After (admittedly not much) thinking about rounds for #285 I've identified potential puzzles.
Thursday is St George's Day so we'll have a "Georg/e" round, saint or otherwise. Mixed bag of nuts from Washington to Georgia, Foreman to Büchner, Town to Michael and generally anything 23rd April.
Round 1 will most likely be "M&M" leftovers since there were quite a few questions left unanswered last week.
Music round - cover versions.
Pictures are the usual BS.
Third question round is still open.
Watch this space.

M & M points

Took a bit but for those of you who print out the table and put it up on the office wall :)

Vertical genetix

As promised last night, here's the link to the website with (among lots of other cool and/or confusing pictures) the "vertical genetic experiments" (the one one the left I "borrowed" for yesterday's second slide... solution in comments)

I might nick one or two at some stage but the challenge is DIY. I'll sure give it a shot.
And to complete the set, here's last night's first one.

Learning curves & leftovers

In the light of recent events, here's a new rule. After the winners have been announced and the last tune has faded away, the quiz night ends. No more requests, no more open mike nights, no more trusting people to respect property and prevalent rules.
And team 42 1/2 would like to (over)share the following information. Go to Amazon.de and look for "Sachbuch".... Go on, try it. But don't say I didn't warn you. (It only works in German, and I can't believe I spent 5 minutes finding the respective search term in English....).

The rest tomorrow, when the brain's had a few hours to recuperate and the batteries have been recharged.

Muahahahahaha

This "M" stuff is sooooo much fun - I could fill 10 quizzes with M-related questions and not once repeat myself :)
Monaco, Manson, Metal, muses, marabou(t), Mandarin, Mindanao, Mike, Martha, Marple, musketeers, monsters, Munsters, mice, mammals, mimicry, mammoths, men, macros, marathon, Munich, Manchester, Madrid, Milan, metro .. the mind moggles.
Have fun researching - I haven't got the foggiest which 20 I'm gonna pick tomorrow.
And if there are no more than the 5 teams in the book so far we'll swap Polyringtonez for mystery sounds...
Ha. Ha-ha-ha-muahahahahaha...ha!

Quiky #284... routine rounds?

Due to circumstances (largely) beyond my control I won't have time for fancy features so here's what Quiky #284 might look like:

Round 1: brought to you by the letter "M" (mixed bag of nuts - from Mississippi to Mekka, Mekong to Metro.. geography, history, assorted science & BS...)
Round 2: Connect 9 is still the plan.. might have to change that though...
Picture round: the usual..macros, mystery objects & much assorted... and genetix, of course..
Round 3: "M" - the sequel .. arts, sports, entertainment....
Music round: as promised/threatened - polyphonic ringtones (I found new ones :)

Check you wiki/Duden/encylopedia/Brockhaus... for anything that starts with "M".. and then take a wild guess :)

Easter points & wishes

Before I enjoy a few days of well deserved rest (and bad football), here's the bullet-point version of the Easter Quiky table. Might add decorated update later this weekend but don't hold your breath. Same goes for bunny, chick 'n' egg & other questions..

UPDATE: here's the eggselent
version

That's that and now I'm off to put me feet up and enjoy the Easter weekend. Hope you do the same, wishing you an eggstremely good one.

Easter Quiky - preview .. & in Deutsch

All eggshausted but eggcited (and yes, you'll have to live with the bad puns for another 2 days :) after a night of thinking, surfing & photoshopping...
The - preliminary- plan looks like this:
Round 1 - Bunny Round (rabbits, hares, playboy, literature, film, music.... mixed bag of eggs)
Round 2 - Chick 'n' Egg (hot & cool chicks, eggs all shapes & sizes, see above...)
Picture round - assorted Chicken Shit, genetic eggsperiments, Easter-related macros.. & more
Round 3 - either Easter-related (history, geography....) OR True or False OR Conneggt Nine OR...
Music round - colourful & sunny.. might be Gone in 120 Seconds (if time permits)
Virtual egg hunt - like last year, there will be a number of easter eggs hidden in the pictures - if you spot the correct number you'll get additional points

Runde 1 - Bunny-Runde (Kaninchen, Hasen, Bunnies, aus Literatur, Film, Playboy, Musik.... bunte Ostermischung)
runde 2 - Huhn & Ei (heiße & coole Chicks, Eier aller Herkunft, Größen, Farben, Formen ..s.o)
Bilderrunde - vermischter Blödsinn, genetische Eggsperimente, Oster-Macros & mehr
Runde 3

and here are a few pre-Easter giggles.

Eggstremely eggshausting

.. this Easter quiz question hunt... I could cite the weather as eggstenuating circumstances but that would be a rather lame eggscuse.
Two days until the 2009 eggstravaganza and all I've come up with so far are tons of bad puns... and a few genetix eggsperiments...
It looks more and more as if we'll have a BIG bag of nuts (or basket of eggs) with no discernible theme. At all. 3 rounds of assorted.. CS (that's "c" for chicken .. :)
For those who prefer to come prepared - be my guess. Anything from Easter islands, traditions, cards, eggs, lambs, bunnies, rabbits, hares, ... in literature, film, music, science, to the - still unanswered - chicken & egg question...
Music - NO CLUE. I am the egg man. Lambchop. White rabbit.
Any suggestions would be more than welcome this time... otherwise you'll have to live with the results of not enough sleep and a warped mind.
Things to eggspect:
dead bunnies

hot chicks

the eggstremely rare Easter gorilla

and eggheads

as for the chicken & egg conundrum....

Reservation rulez

One quick one before the weekend.

In the light of recent events, a reminder. If you reserve a table, and - for whatever reasons - change your plans, do NOT send me emails to cancel. Especially not 15 minutes before the quiz starts.
PLEASE phone the Kilkenny and cancel the reservation (as common sense and courtesy dictate). That way they can give the table to others teams who might want to attend.

New rule - Neue Spielregel

After last night's debates the "maximum players per team" rules changes as follows.
Officially, the maximum number of players per team is still 6. Groups of 7 or more peops have to split up. However, I have neither the time nor the inclination to argue with pig-headed people every Thursday and listen to lame excuses like "Oh, no, they're not playing, just observing. They're silent...". I don't give a flying duck whether the surplus team members are dumb, or deaf, or stupid. Hence the new exception to the old rule. For every surplus player (or actually person at the table) the team gets 1 point deducted per round. No point arguing with me. End of story.

Quiky #282 points

Alreet, let's get this out of the way before I get sidetracked again. And then on to more pressing matters. Newcastle. Easter Quiky. Newcastle. New washing machine. Newcastle. Easter holidays. Newcastle. Newcastle. New... topic.

Here's the bare bones version, don't think a photoshopped update will follow.

Quizky #282
BIM-Pussys + Hans 79,5
Winnetou vs Manitou 73
Pinkies & The Brain 71,5
Let's Think! 70,5
Bonsai Brain 64,5
Die Ubiquisten 62
The Miss Marples 60
BETA 45
Oh Shit! 38,5
Charly's K.G. (after 3 rounds) 36
Spontan (after 2 rounds) 19

Once again newbies & travelling brains nicked first and second place from the local heroes. Well done! And time for some teams to put the thinking cap on again, instead of....

Last round found

It's not the world's best excuse but ever since I read today's NEWS!!!!!!! I can't really concentrate on Toon-unrelated things anymore. Like, quiz questions.
Hence, the third question round tomorrow is going to be another "True or False" round. And you might want to bear in mind that it's the day after April Fool's Day.
And yes, that Shearer one is true. But I won't mention it. Well, try not to. And you shouldn't either.

See you tomorrow. Keep guessing/reading small print/watching tube telly.

Points & prodigal sons

Good news - I found several misplaced items last night. Among the most important ones, my shades. And last week's table.
However, today's exciting (?) events have totally screwed up my plans and you'll get the "bare bones" version rather than the nicely photoshopped points picture.

Quiky #281
Bonsai Brain 54,5
No Brain, no chance 53
Lozenges 52
Ovarian Mayonnaise 51
Muttis auf Schnitzeljagd 48
Bembelboys 41
Vivian Stuhlgang 31
Pimmelschilz 30
Die Erdbeerperlen 27
11. Dan 21
Die Translatanten (after 3 rounds) 20
Wooden Tops (after 2 rounds) 6
Team Denmark (after 3 rounds) 4

And if you were worried about the potential implications today's Toon news might have on tomorrow's quiz.. no, we're not doing a Shearer/Newcastle/Football special round. Rude remarks, pee-taking and other misbehaviour tho might result in straight red cards. It's bad enough we're the laughing butt of the football world for the fifth time this season, I don't need to be reminded of it.
