WQ#100 - The Century Barbecue & Puzzles Party

For those who have not been keeping tabs on Ye Wilde Quiz, a ton of WQs or Ye Wilde Century Quiz (aka WQ#100) is almost upon us.
We'll celebrate 100 Wilde Quizzes on Thursday 1 August, starting at the unusual time of 7pm or even a bit earlier. There will be a barbecue before and during the usual party quiz rounds and games. Unlike the rest of the summer, reservations for this special quiz are absolutely needed, if only for organisational reasons. To date we have 6 tables left, maybe 7 if Cannonballs are out. Phone Oscar Wilde if you want in, NO emails or SMS.
The BBQ is going to be BYO - bring as much or as little as your team wants to throw on the grill (sausages, steak, veggies, small cows...) - makes it easier for you and for us to plan, avoiding leftovers or shortages, and you can be sure that you get exactly what you want. If you want to rustle up a salad or desserts for your team and your neighbours - sharing is caring.
As mentioned above, we will have games rounds, and the question/music rounds might be more but shorter, making sure everyone gets the chance to win a round of shots. I'll be figuring out the rest in the next 2 weeks, ideas or wishes welcome. Discuss this in the FB group.
First though WQ#99 is coming up on Thursday 25 July and I can promise it will be fun. Especially since it will be Charlie's Angels' last week :)

Sherlocked, smurfs and a smashing Sunday

You (and you and you) who weren't there...don't know what you've missed :P
A BIG FAT THANK YOU to the owner & staff of the Oscar Wilde Irish Pub who made this wonderful weekend entertainment possible (and we're not even talking about the - largely forgettable but ultimately successful - Newcastle game).
And a big thank you to the BBC, and the plea to pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease make another season.. Seriously, how can you not?!?!

See you on Thursday.... and maybe we'll watch it again. Together.

Elementary, dear Watson

.. is something Sherlock never said in the books... (it's up there with "beam me up Scotty' and 'Schau mir in die Augen Kleines'...)
Anyroad, before something else happens (it's still Friday 13th...) - last night's points, first pics.. and the current 'book'. Because you were such a wonderful audience :)

Right, Blogger is pissing me off now (excusez mon French) and won't let me upload more than 1 pic at a time... and patience is not my forte.. only the 'book' for the next 3 weeks, the first 15 photos are here.

And in case anyone is still in two minds about how to spend the arse end of Sunday ... BBC SHERLOCK. LIVE. BIG SCREEN. OSCAR WILDE. 10PM. Let's have a party.. and get to know each other even better (name tags will be provided :)

The non-Sherlocked of you I'll see on Thursday. We still have a few tables left :D

22/12/2011

Reservations and seasonal sillyness

Almost forgot - 'book' for next year..

And since I was asked to post a few of my favourite lolcats and silly cartoons.. here are best of, the rest compiled here. Oh, and there are many more LOL-worthy ones here... adults only :)

 Happy and funny holidays.

Fun with .. PHYSICS

Pity some of you weren't there yesterday, you would have known and appreciated what I was at with that Doctor Who reference in the science round.. for all the others - watch, laugh, and REMEMBER.. you never know when a bit of Whoology might come in handy. :)

Regularlier and regularlier...

As of tonight, the 'regular' regular teams (and their respective regularregular tables) are:
Just Met Today (30)
Pinkies with or without Brain (33)
Howard Met Your Brother (35)
3-5 Graces (23)
Newbies (22)
Kirschbierfraktion (26)

These teams are - unless stated otherwise - in the book every week. All other teams will have to book their table through the proper channels (i.e. tell me right after the quiz or phone the Oscar's)....

The 11 teams in the book for WQ#21... see right hand bar.

The rest tomorrow, have to sort thoughts and points and pictures. To all who made #20 such good fun - THANK YOU. We shall do that again soon.
BTW - great to see that there are other people who know- and enjoy - the genius that is Tom Lehrer ;)

Laughs and links

Since I was asked so nicely last night to share the Sex Road Sign cartoon... I shall do so.. and a few of my other favourite pics too. Of course they're not mine and if I remembered where I found them, I would gladly credit the original artists ;)... enjoy trotzdem :D

And for those of you who were wondering about Mike the Headless Chicken (Halloween Quiz) and want to read up on the story.. here is Mike's very own website. Nothing for the faint-hearted though :)

Biblical fun...

THAT was one of the funnest (yes, that is a word in MY dictionary:) nights in the history of Ye Wilde Quiz... and a record attendance. 14! teams...
And before I forget it, here's the topical comic (Old Testament round)  I promised to share.. found it through a friend's facebook the other day and haven't stopped giggling :D

Points and pics up here on Saturday, till then... thanks again to both the Oscar Wilde staff and all the teams. Most excellent night.
Rules will change ever so slightly, regarding reservations, registration, and kick-off times. All of that up here on Saturday too.
For now - have a lovely sunny weekend, and if you're bored on Sunday around 5pm - Oscar Wilde again. The Berlin Toon Army would appreciate your support.(unless you're a Spurs fan.. in that case you're excused :)

15/06/2011

It's a funny old game....

...tennis, that is.

21/04/2011

BANG BANG

Seriously, if the Quiky had a future I would definitely consider changing the Yogi rules... new location though could mean new format and new rules... excluding von vorn herein certain topics :P :P

For now though I (and you) have to live with team Bratpfanne's choice for Monday's Yogi round:
The Big Bang Theory.
Hm.
Na ja.

The rest ist still pretty much open, ich werd versuchen das Yogi-Thema irgendwie auszugleichen ;) Bis Samstag abend könnt ihr mir gern noch Wünsche und Vorschläge zuschicken.
Music könnte mal wieder Stadt-Land-Fluß werden .. songs with geography in the title.. cities, countries, mountains, rivers....

Details here round about Sunday.
Till then - Hoppy Easter, und hier sind (nochmal) einige meiner favourites :D :D ..

The weakest link

Searching for something I don't remember, I happened upon this article from the 2008 online Daily Mail (yeah.)
If you're ever concerned about not having all the answers, or having wrong ones - it'll never be as bad as the following. Just don't know whether to hysterically laugh or cry. Not saying it's just our friends from the Insel, I've met living proof that Germans can be just as thick.

Perfect proof that Britain is dumbing down comes from the toe-curlingly embarrassing answers given by many contestants on TV and radio general knowledge quiz shows. Here, CLAIRE COHEN presents some of the most outrageously stupid doing the rounds on the internet

Contestant: Arm.
White: Correct. And if you're not weak, you're . .?
Contestant: Strong.
White: Correct - and what was Lord Mountbatten's first name?
Contestant: Louis.
White: Well, there we are then. So, who had a worldwide hit with the song What A Wonderful World?
Contestant: Frank Sinatra?

LATE SHOW (BBC MIDLANDS)
Alex Trelinski: What's the capital of Italy?
Contestant: France.
Trelinski: France is another country. Try again.
Contestant: Oh, um, Benidorm.

Contestant: Sorry, I don't know.
Trelinski: Just guess a country then.
Contestant: Paris.

Eggstraordinarily busy

No eggcuses or apologies.. just an eggsplanation. I've been negligent. Not that I've been lazy.. just busy with other things. RL. And obsessions. And Easter. In RL.
Anyroad, still working on tomorrow's plan (and questions) .. but so far it looks like this:
Music - (more or less famous) intros.. you know, the all important first few sesonds that make you want to buy a song.. or run screaming from the room. Nicely cut and mixed. Round 1 - April Fool's Day - mostly True or False (let's see if you can find out if/when I'm lying :P) maybe a few multiple-choice-assorted-BS questions too. Round 2 - Chicks, and eggs, and lambs, and bunnies.. Easterly, like. Round 3 - not the foggiest. Kinder Surprise. Pictures - the usual mix...
We will have fun, and choccies, and hopefully nuts, and definitely alcohol.. and maybe the odd smoke :D And I can sleep in on Friday you we might even have a bit of karaoke :D
See yis soon.
And last but not least:

And since it's almost Easter - some of this year's KwizMiz faves.

you might want to keep that in mind before you go egg-hunting tomorrow :D

On the 18th day of Quizmas

ho ho ho...
