• Wilde Quiz #201 - still with a BIIIIIG question mark, Thursday 12 May, 8pm

Beware, the ideas for March

Quick update regarding the March schedule. For people who don't read the small print on the right.

THERE IS NO QUIZ on 17 March. It's Paddy's Day and the only questions asked on that day will be "where the feck is my drink" and "why the fook are you wearing that silly green hat?"

The #GrandeFinale of Champions League Season 16 will take place on Monday 14th or Monday 21st March. Final date will be announced as soon as the facebook group has agreed on one. Caveat: groups of 8 and more players will be excluded from this one as recent history has shown an annoying lack of discipline in large groups. Champions League Final is all about quiz, No partying.

We shall have reason to party (and quiz) later in March. The BIG#200 is coming up and we're gonna celebrate that one with a quiz party like none before. Details here as soon as we have them. Date will most likely be the 31st March.

For the time being RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. The quizzes are almost always fully booked, walk-ins don't have a chance of getting a table. Most importantly - reservations can only be made by mail to quiz_miz@hotmail.com. If you phone Oscar Wilde to book a table I will not get the information till one hour before quiz starts and by that time it's too late.

Coming next.. or not?

As mentioned a few times, and explained last night, the next few weeks will see some irregular quiz dates and whether we'll have a quiz or not pretty much depends on the number of teams we'll get together.
Below is the current book. I have left out anyone who hasn't explicitely confirmed their attendance, with the exception of the Trusty Three. And ART for next week.




The last regular quiz is WSQ (that's Wilde Sober Quiz ) #141 on Thursday 5 June.

Once the Football World Cup starts we have to hand over the back bar to the fans of the beautiful game (and I count myself amongst them). We do however have the option of moving the quiz to Wednesday nights, at least for WSQ #142 and WQ #143. Since that would mean I'd have to cancel my Wednesday evening classes, Wednesday quizzes will only take place IF WE GET ENOUGH TEAMS. Otherwise we'll have a wee summer break till 3 July. I need to know at least one week in advance for #142 and #143 or I'll call them off, teach, and enjoy the footie.

For the next few weeks at least, if you're not on the list PLEASE PHONE OSCAR WILDE and reserve a table. That goes for all teams, regular or visiting. I will be checking the book every few days and update here.

Last Easter Order, ladies & gentlemen..

Since I need the time to prepare (that includes chocolate shopping ;), I'm closing the book for the upcoming Easter Eggstravaganza tonight (one day later than initially announced). At the moment we have the usual 8 suspects :D in the book, give or take one or two players.
IF you want in on the fun, phone Oscars before midnight. Teams who decide last minute to take part can still turn up and join the quiz part of the party but will miss out on the games & treats as I only prepare for as many teams as are in the book tonight.
But sometimes less (or fewer) is more, and if no one else joins us we'll have enough chocolate for all, and space for silly games :D

Champions League Season 11 starts next Thursday, and if we get at least 5 teams together on MayDay we will have a regular quiz..

Quiz ahoy!!!

Ahoy mateys... we have just found our 5th team and so it is my pleasure to announce that WQ#106 will go ahead as planned. Shiver me timbers...
Despite Thursday being Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day we will NOT have a full pirate quiz BUT one round is sailing under the Joli Rouge. Prepare to be entered(tained). If you DO feel like bringing your parrots, eye-patches, peg legs and cutlasses - bonus points for 'decoration' are available :)
No bottle of rum to be won (though we might try and dig one up) but plenty of other alcohol, and flying nuts.

Autumn anticipation/Fall Vorschau - Pirates, 80s, Ossis, Spooky Special

We have discussed it in the FB group and most regulars are very fond of the idea so it's decided - the Big 80s, the Decade of Decadence deserve their own quiz/party and it will go down on Thursday 26 September. Time enough for those of you who want to play in style to go and dig out/find some something to wear... If you aren't old enough to remember - here's a few tips.
Topics will be all 80s, from sports, politics, fashion, music, trivia, TV, movie, all the way to the music round. FUN with a capital FU guaranteed. If you have any suggestions as to what should be included or what special features you'd like to see, use the fb group to throw them in the ring.

This one is reservations only so if you want in on the fun, book your table early. Oh, and it's a regular Champions League Season  9 quiz.

BUT before that, it's Talk Like A Pirate Day on 19 September and we will have at least 1 pirate-related round, if not more. Harrrgh, shiver me timbers, that was fun last year.

Next special (round) is Ossi, Ossi, Ossi on Thursday 3 October. Because it's 4 days before Republikgeburtstag, the 3 letters that matter are G, D, and R. Expect a few Eastie-Beastie questions and maybe tunes.

And the BIG BIG Super Scary Spooky Special is going to be HALLOWEEN on 31 October. Still a few days away but just saying. This year it falls on a Thursday proper so all the more reason to have a Mother of all MASSIVE MONSTER parties. This one is definitely reservations only, it's going to be packed like the years before. Regular teams (Big Four, Pinkies & Brain, Feid Club, JM2D), of course, have first dibs. Scary fancy dresses are optional but they will get bonus points & prizes. If you want to see what qualifies, check the Halloween label.

Ye Wilde Century Quiz - almost there

Only 4 more (hopefully less hot) nights and then we'll party like it's cool. And it will be. In every sense of the word.
Our little flock is getting bigger and confirmations and reservations are coming in by the ton. Currently we have 4 tables left for the big Barbecue Century Silly Games event that goes by Ye Wilde Quiz #100.
Those who already have their table, remember the following:

• We start at (or around) 7 pm so that we can get a spot of barbecueing done, without queuing and stressing. The door to the back bar will be closed as usual (just to keep unwanted strangers and moochers out) but if you're part of the party - DO ENTER without waiting and proceed to the BBQ area in the yard (or your table). Just make sure you close the door behind you.
• IF you want to put the heat to some meat, do bring whatever you want to devour that night. Hobby chefs who want to rustle up a salad or special sauce or dessert, feel free to bring anything you've always wanted to test - in your kitchen, on your team or neighbours. If you make enough to share, brownie points for future quizzes are guaranteed. 
• Remember that one round will be made up of YOUR questions. Each team has until Monday 9pm to send 5 questions (topics are entirely your choice, I reserve the right to discard any quantum mechanics, water polo rules, or Irish boy band questions etc. ;)) to the usual email address or as message through facebook. Don't forget to include the correct answers ;). We will pick at least 1 question per team, the asking team will have to answer pro forma but will, of course (?), have that point as a freebie (make sure you brief your team members :P). UPDATE: thanks a lot to DAQ, Cannonballs (nicely 100-themed ;)), Graces, both Feid Clubs and Gehirnzellenmassaker for the lovely questions, we have enough for 2 rounds now. Those who didn't send any - you'll have to rely on your luck and/or knowledge :D
• There will be one round with 'best of' questions picked (randomly ?) from the last 100 quizzes. Mixed bag of nuts. Let's see if/what you remember :D
• We will have a music round and a picture round, not sure yet what topic for the former, but the latter will be a mix of old and new.
• Games rounds will include pitchers and paper planes, and maybe balloon animals if I get round to buying, and blowing up, balloons. UPDATE: Houston, we have balloons :D (we will also have instructions ;))
• Anyone who feels compelled to bring a camera, please do. I have only 1 battery for mine and will most likely not have the time to take pics all night. 

So much for those who are already (im)patiently waiting for Thursday. It's gonna be fun!

Those who don't have a table but want in on the fun - PHONE OSCAR WILDE. Emails/text messages/tweets/facebook messages will NOT be accepted.
Likewise, if you realise (at any time between now and Thursday afternoon) that you can't make it, please phone Oscar's to cancel and thus vacate your table. We always have strays or last minute bookings.

Ye Wilde Century Quiz - preparations I

Nothing more to say for the moment about food issues (Do you have any? Issues, that is, not food).. BUT rounds & games want preparing too.
As befits a 'potluck' BBQ & party, we will have a 'potluck' round, or consider it 'Secret Santa in Summer'. Each team can send in 5 questions (with matching correct answers) which will then be drawn from a hat and presented to their fellow quizzers. The asking team doesn't have to answer and gets a point for 'Zuarbeit', the others have to answer the questions. 8 teams = 8 questions. 14 teams = 14 questions. (The WQ#100 rounds will not all have the same length, some might be 'speed' rounds, some might be handouts for the whole night, we might have games & creativity rounds.. just saying)
If you pick the most difficult or outlandish ones you can think of, be prepared for your friendly neighbours to do the same. But bear in mind that the idea of the WQ#100 is not to piss off fellow quizzers but to have fun. Just saying ;)
Do send me your lists with questions (of course NOT irrelevant and totally simple stuff like quantum physics, the intricacies of Inuktitut grammar, or the contents of Mariah Carey's closet) by mail to the usual address, by Sunday 9pm at the very latest. If we don't get enough questions ALL have to answer mine ;). Just saying :D

WQ#100 - The Century Barbecue & Puzzles Party

For those who have not been keeping tabs on Ye Wilde Quiz, a ton of WQs or Ye Wilde Century Quiz (aka WQ#100) is almost upon us.
We'll celebrate 100 Wilde Quizzes on Thursday 1 August, starting at the unusual time of 7pm or even a bit earlier. There will be a barbecue before and during the usual party quiz rounds and games. Unlike the rest of the summer, reservations for this special quiz are absolutely needed, if only for organisational reasons. To date we have 6 tables left, maybe 7 if Cannonballs are out. Phone Oscar Wilde if you want in, NO emails or SMS.
The BBQ is going to be BYO - bring as much or as little as your team wants to throw on the grill (sausages, steak, veggies, small cows...) - makes it easier for you and for us to plan, avoiding leftovers or shortages, and you can be sure that you get exactly what you want. If you want to rustle up a salad or desserts for your team and your neighbours - sharing is caring.
As mentioned above, we will have games rounds, and the question/music rounds might be more but shorter, making sure everyone gets the chance to win a round of shots. I'll be figuring out the rest in the next 2 weeks, ideas or wishes welcome. Discuss this in the FB group.
First though WQ#99 is coming up on Thursday 25 July and I can promise it will be fun. Especially since it will be Charlie's Angels' last week :)

Summer Nights and Ye Wilde Century Quiz

Book for next week(s) and the heads-up for August.

On Thursday 1 August we will celebrate A Century of Wilde Quizzes (that is, in the new era). Yep, we're getting close to the big round 100 (if you count the irregular special nights we've already passed a ton). There will be special treats, and games, and mayhem and general party but we will also have a few questions and puzzles for you. And. of course, drinks, nuts, and other goodies.
Ye Wilde Century Quiz (aka WQ#100) is not part of Champions League Season 8 and you have to explicitly book your table (in time, if you want a good one) because - like the scouts - we want to be prepared. Apart from 'The Big 4' who are seeded, only Lord Pinky, The Pinkies & Dr. Brain are in the book. The sooner you reserve, the better a table you get.
I know it's holiday season but for a number of reasons we will not move it into September till peops are back from foreign lands or feel like gracing us with their presence because the weather sucks. If you miss it you'll have to wait and see if we can make 150.
Unlike the current summer quizzes, reservations for WQ#100 have to be made through Oscar Wilde. Best phone (030/2828166), not sure where emails go ;)

Fair's fair an' all... the facebook 'groupies' have had their heads-up so here is for the others too..

One round in Wilde Quiz #92 will be Trivial Pursuit (the Darts version) and music round will be cover versions. And BOY DO I HAVE mystery objects and baby photos for the picture round :)

No idea what the other two rounds will be but the night is still young.

We have just about enough teams to go along as planned with the second quiz in Champions League Season 8.
We start bright and early at 8pm!!! and finish at 11pm at the very latest. I have a last bus to catch ;)

No rest for the wicked, Thursday saw the start of Ye Wilde Quiz Champions League Season 5 (or YWQCLS5)... great turnout, smashing atmosphere and lots of new faces, and fun. And burning birthday bevvies after midnight. Brill.

WQ#42.. and beyond

This is the current Book for the next 3 weeks...  Just Met Today seem to have kommentarlos left our little quiz family so table 30 (and 31) are all yours, Minus2/Delays/Tacheles (irgendwann werdet ihr euch mal auf einen Namen festlegen 'müssen' :)
Ponies are sitting this one out so table 24 goes to WTF is David Ellis. 5 tables still available. Phone Oscar's if you want in on the fun (lovely Yogi round, I promise :)

Final decision on the June dates up here soon - if you want any say in the matter - say it now :)

June schedule

As most of you will know (and eagerly anticipated) there's this little football tournament coming up that Germany will win this time round :P
This though means our schedule will see some changes due to the back bar in Oscar's being occupied by friends of the beautiful game... The last regular Thursday quiz night is the 7 June Wednesday 6 June.. the following week there's no quiz at all. In the last 2 weeks of June we can have Wednesday 20 instead of Thursday 21 and Monday 25 or Tuesday 26 instead of Thursday 28. July continues as planned.
Below is the current book for the next 3 weeks and the schedule for the remainder of Wilde Quiz Champions League season 4.
Check your schedules and holiday plans and let me know over the next 2 weeks if you'd like to change to other days or take a 4-week quiz break.

The (egg)shape of things to come...

Just because I happened to be in Oscar's.. I put We Have A Problem in the book for Wednesday 21st.. and moved Cannonballs from 21st to 29th.
There are exactly 2 tables left for WQ#34 on Wednesday, if you want them PHONE THE OSCAR'S.
And since Fantastic Four have neither booked a table nor sent me any Yogi suggestions, ALL 3 ROUNDS are my choice :P... spoiled for, all I'm saying.

Also - we're 1 team away from an Easter Quiz on Thursday 5 April... if anyone feels like joining Graces, Just Met Today, Hurricanes and The Buggers.. get a table. Still plenty to be had. Then I can start planning the next just-for-fun quiz. And colour chuckie eggs.

Schedule updates & plans

As mentioned before (several times in several places) I need confirmation from all teams who want to answer Wilde questions on Wednesday 21 March. So far I have 4 teams. One or two more and WQ#43 is GO!.This one is a regular quiz, points counting towards the Champions League. Leave comment here or on f***book. Or phone the Oscar's to reserve your table.

Next week's WQ#33 is a regular CL quiz but slightly leaning towards 'female' topics.. after all, it's International Wimmins Day. Famous females, girlie round, divas in the music round...

Ye Wilde Paddy's Day Quiz on 15 March is a WQ Special... we all go Irish for a night and answer questions on the Emerald Isle, alcohol (gotta love stereotypes :) and famous Irish people. Music will be Irish-ish (on that day, we might count the likes of Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys in ;)

The next Wilde Special would be the annual Easter Eggstravaganza. Though I'm not sure the Thursday before Good Friday is the best date. Maybe we move it to Tuesday 4 April or Wednesday 5 April. Let me know your thoughts.

A change is gonna come

As angedacht and already announced the other day (and the other place)

I have musical plans for Thursday 22 March.. Tower of Power are in town and I've been 'chasing' them for almost 10 years now. Therefore, if you want a quiz, we'll have to move it one day to Wednesday 21 March. If I get enough hands up for we'll have Wilde Quiz #34 (or #35, whichever way you look at it) on Wednesday. If I get more votes against we'll have nowt but a lovely week off.
Entirely your decision.

And while we're on the shape of things to come - Wilde Quiz #34 on 15 March  is our annual great green St. Patrick's Day Quiztravaganza. Games, lots of ABS (assorted bullshit) and a few questions about Ireland, the Irish, and their role in the world. Will definitely involve alcohol (no stereotyping intended :)
That one does NOT count towards the Champions League so if you want to give up your table to let some other teams have some fun for a change :)... Next regular quiz - see above.

Neues Jahr, neues Glück

First of all a Happy New Year to all you lovely quizmanics out there.. hope you had a nice 2-week break, and the brains are well-rested and hungry (gah, now the Kopfkino is playing a very strange film :)
Anyroad, since there's no rest for the wicked, and I've been really missing our nights of nonsense, this week brings the 2012 return of Ye Wilde Quiz.
And as in all the years past, we're going to kick off Quiz Year 2012 on 5 January with the big "That Was The Year That Was" Special Edition... 2011 Review. Last year in music, politics, society, sports, film.. and assorted bullshit :D
In the book are the usual suspects (Just Met Today, Pinkies, Newbies, Bad Apples, Amazing Graces, Alpha Strong, Kirschbierfraktion) as well as The Simpsons, Cheap & Cheerful and an unknown team (?). No Meldung yet from reigning Championes Cannonballs or 3 Fragezeichen, nor Craggy Islanders or David Ellis. We have a few tables left so if you want to test what memories of 2011 you have ... or Kwiki/google some... phone the Oscars to book a table. Or turn up and chance it.
The Champions League Season 3 starts on 12 January. New Rules will be up here soon.

Merry Quizmas

Was kehrt mich mein Geschwätz von gestern.... ignore the post about having a choice for the end of year quizzes. Due to organisational reasons, the remaining dates for this quiz year have been fixed as follows:

#21-23.. as per calendar

#24 - Champions League Final - Thursday 15 December

#25 - Ye Wilde Quizmas - Wednesday 21 December

#26 - start of Champions League season 3 - Thursday 5 January. This one is going to be the big bad 2011 Review Special Edition.

Note: there is no quiz on Thursday 29 December!!! (music night at Oscar's....) if you want a quiz between Christmas and New Year we'll have to find/book another location. Feedback welcome though not expected.
