Stand up for the champions

Before we kick off Season  9 of Ye Wilde Quiz Champions League, massive congratulations to previous, and new champions DAQ**. With their seventh win of the season they got their second title and the brand new trophy, although they stayed below their own season 6 record of 578,5 points.
Over the next 12 or 13 weeks they have the chance to improve that score, just as all other teams have the chance to take that title and trophy off 'em. So from Thursday on it's DAQ Hunting Season :) - come out you Elmer Fudds, and do your worst ;)

This Champions League final was a quiet but very fun affair, with lovely new additions to our little quiz family. The impromptu joined American forces of Suck it, Trebek proved highly creative if ever so slightly messy (didn't your moms teach you...;)).. but their novel approach to solving matchstick puzzles turned out the correct result. And despite being total newbies to our little Thursday round, they got on with 'oldies' Cannonballs like a house on fire.

I really look forward to seeing half of you (and maybe more) again, henceforth under the name No More Nuts oder Nie Mehr Nüsse (although you got only 2 out of 5 ;)).
So before we start with the new, memories of the old. More pictures will be added when I have the time.
Stand up for the Champions, before you sit down for season 9 and start chasing them on Thursday.

Graces' approach - slightly more traditional but no less creative.

Here are points/Champions League table. Photos will have to wait a while.
At the moment it looks as if we will have a quiz next week (Thursday 29 August), and even the Champions League Season 8 Finale!! If your name is in the book - good. If it's not and you want in - phone Oscar Wilde. If you're in and can't come - phone Oscar Wilde.
Yogi right goes to The Beards AND The Cunning Stunts. Each team can send me 3 suggestions for topics by mail, by 9pm Monday 26 August at the very latest. If you have questions, send me a mail too.

Nach dem Quiz ist vor dem Quiz

No pics yet of last week's entertaining night, but at least points and new book. I have private matters to deal with at the moment so we will go along with WQ#102 despite having only 4 teams in the book. However, there is NO QUIZ on 22 August and whatever happens after tomorrow is pretty much open at the moment.
I do look forward to welcoming the trusty teams DAQ, Graces, Cannonballs and JM2D for what migth be the last one of the summer. Whoever else feels compelled to join us, do be there on time. A heads-up would be appreciated so that I know how many teams we'll be dealing with.

Rubber rabbits, fantastic food, paper planes & century celebrations

So, that was IT then. 100 Quizzes (well, a few more but who counts) and look how many 'oldtimers' turned up to celebrate Ye Wilde One Hundred. Although the planning phase was a bit rough in patches, and the night started slightly chaotic, all turned out for the best. At least in my book :D
Massive thanks to all who made it, despite holidays, hot weather and other commitments. Extra special thanks to Franziska (without whom we might not have been able to twist rabbits' ears), Just Met Today's lads (without whom you would have had to eat half of your food cold) and of course super special thanks to Eoin (who not only juggled sausages, steaks & hot potatoes but benches too, and cleaned up our mess in the end), Jens (who was leider locked away in the kitchen but helped us LOADS with preparations and contributed super lecker minty Tzatziki and the lovely marinated veggies I never got to try). And last but definitely not least HUGE round of applause to Gemma & Rebecca who kept us all nicely watered throughout the night and not once lost the Überblick.
Much fun was had by all (as some of the pics below show) and Just Met Today proved not only very hilfsbereit but also brainy and brawny, winning not only the paper plane precision flight round (we shall do that again soon ;)) but the whole Century Quiz. RESPECT!

Below a few pics (I have some 150 more but no time to shop/post them).. more in the FB group courtesy of Franziska. If you have any nice ones you took on the night - do send or post. PrettyPlease.
This weeks sees the return of the Champions League Season 8. Only 3 games left and it looks increasingly as if DAQ will be owners (temporarily) of the new trophy. So far we only have 4 teams (and two maybes) in the book so watch this space, WQ#101 might still get cancelled. Gehirnzellenmassaker have until tonight to send me their 3 Yogi suggestions.

That's it for now, see you Thursday or some other day.
Oh, and if you want to start Thursday with 2 points - predict the outcome of tomorrow's Mike Ashley Clubs Clash (Rangers F.C. - Newcastle Utd.). 1 point for correct result (win/draw/lose), 1 point for correct score. Game starts Tuesday 8.45 CET at Ibrox. Mail/Message/Comment here. BY TUESDAY 8pm.

Ye Wilde Century Quiz - almost there

Only 4 more (hopefully less hot) nights and then we'll party like it's cool. And it will be. In every sense of the word.
Our little flock is getting bigger and confirmations and reservations are coming in by the ton. Currently we have 4 tables left for the big Barbecue Century Silly Games event that goes by Ye Wilde Quiz #100.
Those who already have their table, remember the following:
  • We start at (or around) 7 pm so that we can get a spot of barbecueing done, without queuing and stressing. The door to the back bar will be closed as usual (just to keep unwanted strangers and moochers out) but if you're part of the party - DO ENTER without waiting and proceed to the BBQ area in the yard (or your table). Just make sure you close the door behind you.
  • IF you want to put the heat to some meat, do bring whatever you want to devour that night. Hobby chefs who want to rustle up a salad or special sauce or dessert, feel free to bring anything you've always wanted to test - in your kitchen, on your team or neighbours. If you make enough to share, brownie points for future quizzes are guaranteed.
  • Remember that one round will be made up of YOUR questions. Each team has until Monday 9pm to send 5 questions (topics are entirely your choice, I reserve the right to discard any quantum mechanics, water polo rules, or Irish boy band questions etc. ;)) to the usual email address or as message through facebook. Don't forget to include the correct answers ;). We will pick at least 1 question per team, the asking team will have to answer pro forma but will, of course (?), have that point as a freebie (make sure you brief your team members :P). UPDATE: thanks a lot to DAQ, Cannonballs (nicely 100-themed ;)), Graces, both Feid Clubs and Gehirnzellenmassaker for the lovely questions, we have enough for 2 rounds now. Those who didn't send any - you'll have to rely on your luck and/or knowledge :D
  • There will be one round with 'best of' questions picked (randomly ?) from the last 100 quizzes. Mixed bag of nuts. Let's see if/what you remember :D
  • We will have a music round and a picture round, not sure yet what topic for the former, but the latter will be a mix of old and new.
  • Games rounds will include pitchers and paper planes, and maybe balloon animals if I get round to buying, and blowing up, balloons. UPDATE: Houston, we have balloons :D (we will also have instructions ;))
  • Anyone who feels compelled to bring a camera, please do. I have only 1 battery for mine and will most likely not have the time to take pics all night.

So much for those who are already (im)patiently waiting for Thursday. It's gonna be fun!

Those who don't have a table but want in on the fun - PHONE OSCAR WILDE. Emails/text messages/tweets/facebook messages will NOT be accepted.
Likewise, if you realise (at any time between now and Thursday afternoon) that you can't make it, please phone Oscar's to cancel and thus vacate your table. We always have strays or last minute bookings.

Any more updates/discussions in the fb group. Find us, join us.

Massacred Brain Cells, Mixed Purple Olsons & M-Bands

Apologies for the tardiness in putting up results & pics & stuff (it takes less time to chuck it all in the FB group).. heat is partially to blame.
Another fun night with what looks like 2 potential new regular(ish) teams... welcome to Gehirnzellenmassaker (und ja, ihr könnt euren Namen bei zukünftigen Auftritten ändern ;)), welcome back to Oreos & Olsons (wor canny Scandinavians on their annual Berlin/WQ visit).
And - with a tear in our collective eyes - we wave goodbye to Charlie's Angels who, by now, might be back in Ireland. We are going to miss you, the quiz nights will be sooo quiet from now on (just kidding ;)) and we will welcome you back any time you descend upon Berlin :D
Yogi'winners' Gehirnzellenmassaker will join us not only for Ye Wilde Century Quiz but also for WQ#101. You have until Sunday 4 August to send me your 3 topics. If you don't know how, do ask on Thursday. Here are a few pics (the rest on facebook) and the current Champions League table. Looks as if DAQ are on the way to their second title, eh?
