No more Prediction of the Week

Waaaayyy-heeyyyy .. one of those moments when you desperately try to come up with something new and nowt comes to mind and all of a sudden a flash of .. brilliance?!?!?

Well, while that might be a tad exaggerated I've just come up with a new feature that will replace the Prediction of the Week (was tempted to ask a Newcastle question... that's how out of ideas I was..).. but now I've got more than enough for the next 249... and it's gonna be a laugh!!!

Introduced tomorrow, bring your creative hats...

Genetic splicing - the professional way

I know that face-merging feature has become one of the most popular in the picture round but it's still done "by hand" and always takes a rather long time. I have, however, come across a real cool (and sometimes scary) "plaything" while wandering around the interweb thingie.. it's a morphing toy and produces really cool "mutants".. you should actually try it, it's fun (and rather time-consuming :)
Their catalogue of available celebrity pix isn't that great but the "offspring" you can generate are legion..

The website is this one and here's one example

and here another one

I will continue doing it the "hard" way tho - I have way too much fun with Photoshop :)

Any questions?

As promised to Hélène and because I haven't done it in ages - here are some of last night's questions/pictures.. answers you should remember :) (if not, drop me a line, I'll remind you)
  • In which two cities would you find these two bridges?

  • On 23 July of what year did the Ford Motor Company sells its first car? (+/- 20 years)
  • Which of these organisations has the most member states: a) World Trade Organization, b) United Nations or c) FIFA?
  • Tsar Peter the Great and Napoleon, nicknamed “the little general” - how tall were these two rulers? (+/- 10 cm)

  • In which country would you find Angel Falls, the world’s highest waterfalls? Bonus question: how high are they? (+/- 100m)

  • Which “lost city” did archaeologist Hiram Bingham re-discover on 24 July 1911?
  • How did the RMS Carpathia become world-famous in 1912?
  • On 10 July of what year was the City of Dublin founded? (+/- 200 years)
  • Name these 3 - rather weird looking - animals.

alreet, that was round 1.. the other two maybe tomorrow.. but for macro 1+2 and genetic
experiments :)

Fasten your seat belts

or close your eyes

this is the pic I was trying on the big screen on Thursday and it wasn't working.. not sure why, might be the big screen or it only works on computer monitors or.. I dunno - maybe it works here (you'd have to click on it to enlarge it and then stare at it for a minute or so...)

BTW - more stupid stuff like that, exploding whales, Obama is your bicycle & other tosh on my dark site

Quiky 247 - Rankings

All in all a rather surprising but nice turnout (must have been the weather) .. and good fun all night (well, at least I had some for a change) .. It looks as if we might get ourselves some new (semi) regular teams (hey, fresh meat, and not the daftest :) at least when the hols are over.. in the meantime we could go back to games rounds (dunno if paperplane-into-a-bucket-flying would work indoors but..) should attendance be a bit lower next time...

BTW - the "secret" of TSNG's spectacular music round and subsequent victory - one of the lads had a 5 year "Jamba Spar-Abo" ROFLMAO .. never know when ..sh...tuff like that comes in handy in life :)

POW - Prediction of the Week 248

Here was the potential point for next Thursday:

The suggestions left on 17 July were the following

Pinkies & the Brain: Rotes Rathaus
Lonesome 3: Flughafen Tempelhof

Paris & somet: Brandenburger Tor/Pariser Platz
Split: Platz der Luftbrücke

Well, so far it looks as if the place for a cheap attempt at copying JFK is this one here..

..at least if the interweb thingie is to be believed (guckst du hier).. Doesn't mean tho it couldn't be changed last minute...

Ze latest:
Siegessäule it is then, so no points for no one... better luck next week (might be Tour de Farce prediction unless someone's got a better idea...

Mieux vaut tard que jamais

Bon Quartorze Juillet!!!!

.. or HAPPY BASTILLE DAY as the anglophone friends would say :)

and this is by far the bestest version I've ever heard.. gives me goosebumps every time I see/hear it...

à jeudi alors....

Practice makes perfect

..well, at least there's no harm in trying..
Just got a mail from a former quiz "nut" - link to an online quiz website (yeah, I know, that's what I was thinking too... :). It's quite neat tho, no annoying advertising, no money involved and the prizes are .. well, not exactly the reason why I did it :) ...

It's a bit like "Who wants to be a Milllionaire", Sparversion :) and the first round (there's a new one every Tuesday methinx) was okay... actually gave me a few ideas for new questions/pictures :)

Anyroad, if you want to give a shot - here's the link .. (it's German only, mind... )

And you never know, some of the questions might come up one day.. :)

Quiky 246 - Rankings

nice turnout again, and some surprise guests (good to see you again, Shay :).. and allround nice night... but for the late show of some regulars (you know who you are .. and I'll be doing something about it soon :)
pretty even till the very last round, no big runaways.. guess I'm getting the mix right sometimes :)

POW - Prediction of the Week 247

Ran out of ideas this week so it's a bit of a "who cares anyway" prediction I ask you to make...
(one of) the ongoing summer transfer saga(s).. that annoying Portugeezer, slick w(h)inger Ro-passmethebarfbag-naldo.. is he gonna do one to Real or will he be getting on my nerves again next season??

Predictions on the night

YAM (aka Paris.. sth): He'll leave (says Hélène :) (if he has some brains he has to.. adds Ana)
Günther's Lack of Oxygen: He'll stay

Not that I think the issue is going to be resolved before the next quiz .. so leave your predictions here or mail them by Thursday noon...

And again - WHO GIVES A F...????????

Quite a turnout, more than expected...

POW - Prediction of the Week 246

here's the prediction of the week for Thursday 10 July.. (thx to Jon for the suggestion)
it's Wimbledon Finals this weekend so

You can leave your tips here or mail them to quiz_miz@hotmail.com by Saturday 5 July, 12:00. So far we've got

Naked in Krumme Lanke (aka Sausages): Nadal/S Williams
Yahoo (aka Paris Paris): Nadal/S Williams
Irish Luck (aka Dumbass Kanuks): Federer/S Williams
and an unnamed team: Nadal/Sharapova (clearly that's wishful thinking?!? she went out in the 2nd round.. :)

UPDATE
so it was Nadal .. and Williams.. just the wrong one.. and before you ask, no you won't get half a point for the surname...

Practice makes perfect

in case we're ever doing paper planes again - here's where you can improve your technique and get ideas - at least construction-wise.. still have to find a good pilot :)
